Speaking to the New York Post, Dr. Corn explained that slowly chewing the raisin activates a chemical process that relaxes the nervous system: Heart pulses and breathing rate decrease and release γ-aminobutyric acid, a neurotransmitter acting against stress .
The result is to "regulate" the feeling of craving and to subdue the desire to eat!
