Yoga is excellent exercise for our bones

The truth is that every exercise brings results in our body and our mental health. But many of us believe that only the usual gravity exercises such as walking, running, jumping and lifting, exercising enough pressure on the bones in order to maintain or increase their density.

This does not apply, as a new study shows how and yoga is extremely effective for our bones . Researchers involved in the study, noted that the proven benefits of yoga, including improved balance and coordination, protect the fall , a major cause of osteoporotic fractures.

The researchers wanted to determine if yoga they chose, could also increase bone density by imposing strength in the spine and hips.

The study was done on the Internet, participated 741 people from 2005 to 2015 . Participants were asked to scan dual energy X-rays (DEXA) of the hip and the spine and other laboratory tests at baseline. Also received a DVD with instructions for yoga and asked to record their activity online.

The logs indicated that the 227 participants, 202 of whom were women, did yoga in their daily routine at least every other day for two years.

Their mean age was 68 years old when they entered the study and 83% had lower than normal bone density.

The results of DEXA presented at the end of the study showed marked increases in bone density in the spine. Bone density hips also increased, but not significantly. None of the participants reported broken bones or other injuries caused by yoga.

Although promising, the study published in 2015 in the subjects of geriatric rehabilitation, does not provide sufficient evidence that yoga can reverse bone loss. The researchers acknowledged their drawbacks: less than a third of the study participants complied with the routine of yoga made at least every other day throughout the study and only 43 submitted by scanning the DEXA at the beginning and end of the study.

The Dr. Marian Hannan , professor of Harvard Medical School says that there should be a more comprehensive study whose research includes the effects of industrial in physical function.

The Dr. Hannan notes that participants were also self-selected, not randomly enrolled. In short, they wanted to practice more yoga.

Yoga is a mind-body activity and for someone to gain the most benefit requires complete dedication.
