Doctors have removed over 100 metal objects from the stomach man!

French surgeons removed from the stomach of a man more than 100 pieces of different shapes and sizes of metals, which he had swallowed because of psychosis.

The 52-year-old, despite having antipsychotic medication therapy, has always tended to swallow metal objects such as teaspoons , coins , nails , screws , small knives , metal razor blades, and so on.

Gradually, some metallic objects, which had only been partially or totally digested, had formed unified metal masses in his stomach, so large that they had blocked the pyloric, the mouth that connected the stomach with the small intestine, which prevented the emptying of the stomach its content.

The man had gone five times in hospital emergencies over five years, complaining of stomach upsets, nausea, and vomiting with blood. In four cases physicians had to take action to remove metal masses from his stomach, something that could not be done with the endoscope alone.

On the fifth and worst time, a few months ago, it was revealed that the metal objects had opened a hole in his stomach . Doctors were surprised that this had not happened much more often, given the sharp objects (eg razor blades) the man swallowed. But, as they have said, the stomach walls may eventually prove to be very resistant and heal their wounds.

To the question of why someone deliberately swallows so many metal or other objects, there is no easy answer. It is usually a behavior that has people with mental disorders or prisoners . Psychosocials can hear inner voices telling them to swallow objects, while others make it a tendency to hurt themselves.

Treatment is difficult, as if someone tends to swallow unusual and dangerous objects, they will usually do it over and over again , even if it causes him pain or medical problems.

The French doctors from a hospital in Pusat, headed by Dr. Elias Chahine, published the case of a man in the British magazine for unusual medical incidents, BMJ Case Reports, according to RES-MEA.
