Germany: In a better climate the exploratory talks on the formation of "Jamaica"

Contrary to last week's talks, a more positive climate seems to have prevailed in the last day-long exploratory conversation between Christian Democrats, Liberals and Greens.

We recall that in the previous talks the parties were also publicly involved in recriminations, mainly on issues of migration and environmental protection

After the last meeting, however, all sides assured that a "constructive" dialogue had taken place. Indeed, the Greens decided to hold a conference on 25 November to decide whether or not to hold negotiations on the establishment of a "Jamaica" government.

"Atmospheric" change is the result of a conciliation by party leaders on Sunday about how to inform the public about how the talks are going to take place and, above all, to take place at a faster pace. The next meetings will take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and four meetings are scheduled to be held next week to discuss specific issues.

The party's provisional interim report, leaked to the press, states that the parties have broadly agreed on issues related to public security, education, research, digitization, social security and the labor market. The fact is, however, that this agreement is more intentional than concrete measures. As the party representatives have admitted, there still remains a difference of opinion on many issues.

One of the few tangible results in the interim review is a marked increase in the budget for education and research. Future government partners intend to increase spending in this area to 10% of GDP by 2025. As of that date, they want to establish the fast-growing Megabyte-level internet that is currently at Gigabyte level across Germany.

There is also agreement to keep the minimum wage as well as social security contributions at 40%.
